the perfect tip for crochet color change

Improve Your Amigurumi Technique With This Color Change Tip [Infographic]

By Chantal on June 30, 2021

Have you ever felt that when doing the color change for an Amigurumi, both yarns are kind of mixed?. I have... However, I found this super tip that avoid this. I explain it in this post, so read carefully!

The first thing that you may have in mind is where you want to change the color. You will need to start changing to the new color one stitch before the one you want. For example, if I want to start with green at stitch number 6 I shall change the color at the time of finalizing the stitch number 5.

Then, at this previous stich, you shall insert the crochet, as same as we do for a normal single crochet stitch. See Figure 1.

Then take the thread, and you will have 2 threads around your hook, just like a normal single crochet stitch, as seen in Figure 2.

And now is when the steps get different, instead of closing the stitch with the original thread, we will use the new thread, like in Figure 3 and 4.

Figure 5: The difference between both colors is now well separated.

Then, make a knot with the two threads behind, as they were the same yarn. For me, it is easier to crochet 1 or 2 stitches more with the new thread before making the knot.

Finally, cut the remaining thread of the first color, and keep working with the new one.

And that’s all! Very easy, isn’t it?

Practice this tip and let me know how useful it is, have a good day!
